The Apple Store, located in the Atlanta Cumberland Mall, is the first of 272 retail outlets in the company to lodge a selection of the company. “We want to have a voice in the workplace,” said Elli Daniels, a retailer and union organizer. “We are doing this because we love Apple and we love our work, and we want to make sure we can continue to love the company as we do now. On Friday, a group of Cumberland retail workers said they planned to enter the work lounge and post a statement of vision for all employees to see.
In the letter, employees write that they work for a large technology company “because Apple’s public values go with ours.” They add: “We are here to live with them and we want Apple as well.”
This means that company values do not always translate to the forefront. During the disaster, employees complained that while Apple was leading the retail department implementing COVID-19 safety measures, some retail store managers pressured employees to come to work when they encountered symptoms.
“We had a huge fan base when we started organizing everything we went through with COVID,” Daniels said. News of Apple’s retail workers in Atlanta filing for the organisation’s election has sparked a flurry of activity across stores across the country. The Cumberland Mall Apple Store is one of at least six stores currently pushing to merge, according to vice.
Apple has not pushed back publicly, but the tech giant is working with prominent lawyers opposed to the Littler Mendelson organization to respond to organizers in Atlanta.
